Apps
We don’t have a library app, but our website is responsively designed to work on all devices. However, some of our resources do have apps available, and you can find these on our Library Apps page.
Article requests
Need an article we don’t have access to? You can order a copy and we’ll obtain it for you.
Binding
KGH Library offers a comb-binding service, with a 24 hour turnaround time. Cost is £2.00 for up to 16mm depth, or £3.00 for over 16mm depth.
BMJ Best Practice
BMJ Best Practice is a database of evidence summaries, accessible to all NHS staff and students. It also includes clinical calculators, patient information leaflets, and procedural videos.
BMJ Case Reports
BMJ Case Reports is a searchable database of case reports, accessible to KGH colleagues. KGH colleagues can also submit their own case reports for free. Contact us for our fellowship number if you wish to do this.
BNF / BNF for Children
BNF (British National Formulary) and the BNF for Children are available to holders of NHS OpenAthens accounts.
Apps for mobile devices are also available.
Book Clubs
We have two book clubs at KGH – one sharing leisure reading and the other looking at books themed around leadership.
Book requests
Need a book we don’t have access to? You can order a copy and we’ll obtain it for you.
Book reservations
If you need a book that is held in KGH Library, whether it is on loan, or you simply want it put to one side for collection, you can reserve it through the catalogue using your library barcode number.
Books on Prescription
We have many of the titles from the Books on Prescription scheme available in our Healthy Lives collections. This is part of our Well-Being @ Work initiative.
Catalogue
The KGH Library Catalogue includes all the print books held in KGH Library. As well as searching for books, you can reserve books, view your account, and make suggestions for the library.
Colouring sheets
Stressed? We have a range of colouring sheets for adults and colouring pencils that you can use in the library as part of our Well-Being @ Work initiative.
Computers
The library has PCs available to use in the IT drop-in room.
Critical appraisal support
We can provide training in the basic of critical appraisal techniques to groups, and we also provide some online training resources.
Databases
We offer access to a wide range of databases for literature searching, including CINAHL and Medline that can be searched from the Resources Search article tab, and others such as EMBASE, PsycINFO, HMIC and more that can be searched via the NICE Healthcare Databases Advanced Search interface. For advice on which database to choose, visit the Knowledge Navigator page.
DynaMed
The DynaMed clinical decision support tool is available to KGH staff and students, both on and off-site, and via mobile app.
E-books
We have titles available through the ProQuest Ebook Central service to eligible users with OpenAthens accounts. Books can be viewed online, or downloaded to mobile devices for up to 14 days at at time. Visit our guide to downloading e-books for more information.
Evidence searches
We can carry out searches on your behalf to identify journal articles, guidelines, systematic reviews and other material to help meet your requirements.
If your search is for coursework, we’ll ask you to do the search yourself but we are happy to offer training on how to search.
Evidence Updates
Our KnowledgeShare Evidence Update service is a personalised current awareness service allowing you to receive new evidence on topics tailored to your requirements. It covers policy documents and a range of summarised evidence, so you won’t be inundated with primary research articles, and emails are sent each fortnight.
Exam collections
KGH library has collections of revision and exam preparation books for undergraduate medical students, and postgraduate medical courses (such as MRCP, MRCS, MRCPCH etc.).

Fines
You’ll be happy to know we don’t charge fines on overdue books, unless the book is requested by someone else. In this case, we will charge £10.00 if we have to send a recall letter. If books are not returned by their due date or recall date we will invoice you for the full RRP of each book.
Headphones
We have headphones available for you to use.
Health awareness event displays
At KGH library we have regular displays to support national or local health awareness events. Let us know if your team would like to have a display in the library.
Health Literacy
With up to 61 per cent of the working age population in England finding it difficult to understand health and wellbeing information, many struggle to manage their health adequately.
We have a number of resources in our Health Literacy hub to support all patients and colleagues with health literacy and health literacy awareness, and can even offer health literacy awareness training for you or your team.
Healthy Lives Collections
KGH Library has a Healthy Lives collections to support your own well-being and that of your family, including books on mindfulness, pregnancy, parenting, stress management, exercise and more. This is part of our Well-Being @ Work initiative.

Journals
We have access to over 3,500 journal titles, though not all titles will have all issues available. To check whether the one you want is available, visit the ‘Journal’ tab on Resource Search.

Laminator

The Library have well-stocked collections of books to support leadership and management in designated Leadership Zones.

We have collections of leisure reading books in our library, that include a range of novels, biographies and non-fiction titles.
We accept donations of good quality books, so please feel free to pass on to us titles you’ve enjoyed and want to share with colleagues.

Mood Boosting Books
We have a number of the Mood-Boosting Books selected by the Reading Agency as being uplifting titles, including novels, poetry and non-fiction. These are available as part of our Leisure Collections.
Nursing and Midwifery Revalidation Resource Boxes (Coming soon)
We have a variety of Resource Boxes available to teams to borrow for 28 days at a time containing a range of books and other resources on specific topics, and one of these contains resources to support nursing and midwifery revalidation.
Nursing and Midwifery Revalidation resources
As well as the Resource Boxes, we also have revalidation forms available to take away, and can support you in a number of other ways such as training to help you find suitable journal articles to reflect on, and books on topics such as reflection, portfolio building, writing and lots more.
Resource Search
Resource Search is our one-stop search facility for a range of library resources, including books, e-books, articles, evidence resources and journals.
OpenAthens
OpenAthens is a password system for access to a range of information resources purchased nationally and locally. They are free of charge, and all NHS staff and students can have one.

Out of Hours access
Access 24 hours a day, seven days a week is available to eligible users on application.

Quality Improvement Hub
Dedicated resources for Quality Improvement
Read by QxMD
Use Read by QxMD to create a personalised alerting service for journal articles, and connect to full-text if your organisation subscribes to the journal. You can link to the journal collections of KGH. Free registration required, along with an NHS OpenAthens to access full-text articles.
Reminiscence boxes
We have reminiscence boxes available in the library to help support people with dementia. The boxes contain items to provoke memories and discussion, and have been developed in collaboration with the Dementia Lead Nurse. They can be borrowed by staff for use in wards and departments to jog a memory and start a conversation.
Renewing your books
We provide automatic renewals, up to a total of 12 weeks of loan.
If you’ve reached your maximum number of automatic renewals, you can renew your loans by visiting the library desk or by phone.
If someone else is waiting for the book, or if it has come from another library it may not be possible to renew it.
Research Hub
The Research Hub has details of publications by KGH colleagues, as well as resources to support research.
Returning your books
Books can be returned to KGH Library, and if we’re closed (and you don’t have out of hours access) we have a book return box outside the Library near the 24/7 access door.
Room bookings
We have a bookable individual study room in the Library.
Royal Marsden Manual of Clinical Nursing Procedures
As well as print copies, we also have online access available to eligible members via NHS OpenAthens. Access is also available to KGH staff via the K-net.
SPSS
We host the SPSS statistics software package on behalf of the Research and Development Department.
If you are carrying out audit or other research on behalf of the Trust and would benefit from having access to this package please contact kgh-tr.library.index@nhs.net for further details.
For those of you completely new to SPSS Margaret Theaker can offer a basic tutorial to get you started.
Staff Publications
We keep details of publications by staff in KGH, and more information can be found on our Research Hub. If you’ve published something, you can submit the details for inclusion.
Survey Monkey
The library hosts SurveyMonkey
With methodologist-certified survey templates, you can create many types of surveys and get the answers you need to make better decisions.
We can help you quickly and easily set up surveys or questionairres to help your research, find out what people think about a plan, proposal or training event, or gather feedback on any topic
Training and assistance
We’re happy to provide training in information skills, and this can be at your workplace or in the library. We can also provide assistance over the phone or email if you are struggling to access information.

Vocational Qualification books
We already stock a number of books to support vocational qualification, including the Diploma in Health and Social Care, but if we don’t have what you need let us know and we’ll obtain copies for you.
Volunteer access
Volunteers working with KGH can register as library members, borrow books, and use the PCs.
WiFi
The Library has access to free public WiFi (via ‘NHS Wi-Fi’), In addition to NHS WiFi for KGH and ‘BYOD’ devices.
