The transition between student to qualified nurse is an important process. This reading list contains resources to help preceptors and preceptees alike throughout this important time.
Links to free training resources around up skilling nurses to face the challenges brought by COVID-19 have also been added. Many of the resources listed can be accessed via the KGH Knowledge and Library Service (KLS).

NHS England Learning Hub offers an interactive elearning resource to support registered practitioners in effectively undertaking the role of a preceptor.

Preceptor eCompendium programme recognises the needs of the preceptor providing them with guidance, support, resources and practical tools that they need for their role. Supporting the preceptor to develop valuable skills that will help them in other supporting roles that they will find themselves taking on during their current or future roles.

This programme is made up of 5 learning sessions, consisting of:

Session1: The Preceptor Role
Session 2: Leading and coaching Preceptees
Session 3: Identifying/agreeing the Preceptee’s learning/support needs
Session 4: The health and well-being of the Preceptor and Preceptee
Session 5: Reflecting on your experience as a Preceptor

The elearning will support nursing, midwifery, and Allied Health Professional (AHP) preceptors.

End of Life Care e-Learning

The End-of-life Care for All (e-ELCA) programme is an elearning library which provides resources to enhance the training and education of the health and social care workforce so that well-informed high-quality care can be delivered by confident and competent staff and volunteers to support people wherever they happen to be.

Nursing and Midwifery Council – Principles for preceptorship

Sets out a common set of principles for organisations and employers that can be used to develop an effective model of preceptorship.

The RCN NMC Preceptorship includes a list of Advice Guides on the topic.

End of Life Care – Fundamentals of Nursing Care at the End of Life is a resource developed by the RCN to support qualified and student nurses in the delivery of appropriate end of life care alongside their existing training (RCN members only)
