Services

Evidence Searches

Our staff are skilled in carrying out literature searches in support of research and patient care. We can help save you time and ensure you find the high-quality information you need. Your searches can be saved and sent regularly to update you.

This is a free service provided by KGH Knowledge and Library Services to support clinical practice, service development and research. You can have your search set up as an alert so that you will be emailed details of new publications on a weekly or monthly basis.

Current Awareness and Evidence Updates

Evidence and current awareness updates can provide highly tailored, individual updates of newly published healthcare information in your areas of interest.

Personalised Evidence Updates

KnowledgeShare Evidence Updates is a personalised current awareness service allowing you to receive new evidence on topics tailored to your requirements. It covers policy documents and a range of summarised evidence, so you won’t be inundated with primary research articles.

Log-in using your OpenAthens details, go to your profile, select edit (the pencil symbol), and specify your areas of interest – you can be as broad or as detailed as you like – and how often you would like to be updated. You can amend these at any time by logging in.  Your evidence update will be configured to ensure you only receive relevant, high-quality information.

If you’re not a library member, please register with the library by using the online form or filling out a registration form available in the library.

Training and Inductions

Evidence Searching

Do you want to do your own evidence or literature searching? Or are you just overwhelmed by all the resources we have available? If you need help with any of our resources, we offer training to all KGH staff. The training sessions can be one to one – at your desk or ours, or in small groups, or virtually via Teams. Training sessions available include:

  • Evidence searching on NHS Healthcare Databases
  • Introduction to critical appraisal
  • Accessing e-journals and e-books
  • An in-depth look at any one of our digital resources

If you feel you require training on anything related to library resources or services – or even just a quick walk through the features of a particular database – please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Critical Appraisal

The library can help you develop your critical appraisal skills, which will enable you to be able to assess the validity of a range of studies of different types.

You can request Teams or in-person training for a group or 1:1 and we can help you learn the basics of critical appraisal for both quantitative and qualitative studies.

Or you can find learning materials on our Critical Appraisal page, including videos, e-learning courses and more!

Staff Inductions

Do you have a new cohort of staff who could benefit from an introduction to the services and resources offered by the library? If so, then our staff can provide induction support where we deliver a bespoke overview of our services and resources. We will tailor the content of the induction session to your staffing cohorts specific needs, identifying and signposting them to the most relevant resources we have to offer.
